Classy Finish For Brown

8 March, 2010 | 2 Comments

Mark Brown has scored a best round of the day bogey free 66 in the final round of the Maybank Malaysian Open to finish in a tie for tenth place. After consistent performances of 71, 71 and 72 over the first three rounds Brown saved his best for last to gain his first top ten for 2010. Click here to see full scores.

Nervous Wait For Seething Brown

A bogey on the last hole of the second round has put Mark Brown in an invidious position. Rounds of 68 and 71 have left him at one under par for the tournament, on the cut line ‘bubble’. The Clash’s anthem “Should I Stay Or Should I Go” will be ringing in his ears as he contemplates going to the airport to catch the only available flight back to New Zealand after a nine month absence. However, a few more players slipping down the leaderboard will see him survive to play the weekend. Spare a thought for Mark and let’s hope he makes the cut. Click here for scores.

Mark Brown has shot a one under par 71  in the third round of the WGC HSBC Champions at Sheshan International Golf Course in Shanghai. It was a more consistent scoring round for Brown who managed to stay out of double and triple bogey trouble and proved he can put together a slightly less roller coaster-round. Despite not making a birdie until his seventh hole (the sixteenth) Brown managed the front nine in one over par, his best effort for the week. He has moved up to a share of 37th place and will be looking to make another sub par round in tomorrow’s final round. Click here for full scores.

Solid Showing but Brown Disappointed

Mark Brown made the best of his first nine holes in the second round of the HSBC Champions in China, making the turn at 2-under par, 3-under for the tournament. Unfortunately a double on the first and two balls in the water on the eighth leading to a triple unhinged his round, meaning a 2-over par 74 to put him in a tie for 45th. Brown can see how costly those errors are when at one stage he was tied for 10th place. However there are encouraging signs in his game and his aim over the next two days is to minimise the errors and shoot some low numbers because when he learns to eliminate the doubles and triples it will be ‘game on’. Brown Returns to China

Mark Brown will tee up the ball in the rich WGC-HSBC Champions Tournament this week at Sheshan International Golf Course in Shanghai. Brown qualifies by virtue of his status as Australasian Order of Merit 2008 winner and will be looking to perform well over the four rounds. This is the first time this event has been part of the World Golf Championships meaning this year it is even bigger and better than last. Mark will have fond memories of his last outing in China this year when he finished third at the Volvo China Open and this week he reunites with his caddy from that tournament, Ronnie. Mark will be teeing off first off the first hole at 8:55am on Thursday (1:55pm NZT) playing with Nathan Green of Australia and Mark Murless of South Africa.

Wat-er Day

Mark Brown has had a week to forget in Sinagpore, his agony prolonged by the stormy weather. After a lost ball and two in the water on Thursday, Friday fared no better with a long delay due to storms and heavy rain meaning the second round was completed on Saturday. Mark had another 78 to mean a weekend of practice ahead of the HSBC Champions in Shangai next week where he is about to set the golfing world on fire. Frustration For Brown

Mark Brown will not remember the seventh hole at the Oceanico Victoria Golf Course in Portugal with fondness. He managed to play the hole six over par in two rounds, yet still finished one-under par in two rounds, three shots outside the cut. Brown has shown a promising return to birdie form and is taking a week’s break in Ascot before a blitz on three Asian tournaments: the Barclays Singapore Open, the HSBC Champions in Shanghai and the Hong Kong Open. Even Par, but Ouch

Mark Brown has shot an even par 72 on the first day of the Portugal Masters near Faro. On the face of it this is a reasonable score but closer inspection is encouraging yet demoralising for Brown. He hit 17 greens in regulation but also made tripe bogey on the par four seventh and had 35 putts! Mark will be disappointed with this on a day that scoring was low. The leader Francesco Molinari of Italy is nine under par and Mark currently sits in a tie for 90th place. Click here for full scores.

Brown Finishes Up in Madrid

12 October, 2009 | 1 Comment

Mark Brown has finished in 66th place at the Madrid Masters with scores of 68, 72, 71 and 70 over the four days. Brown should take heart in the consistency of his rounds, this being one of his most steady and consistent performances in months, averaging 15 greens in regulation per round. Despite putting stats of 31, 33, 31 and 33  per round, Brown will be encouraged by his improvement from tee to green and will keep working on his short game and was pleased with his eagle on the last hole of the tournament. Persistence Pays Off

Mark Brown’s dogged determination and practice has finally seen some rewards in the first round of the Madrid Masters in Spain. Brown shot a four under par 68 to sit in a tie for 16th place, six shots behind the early runaway leader Manuel Quiros of Spain. Brown’s blemish free round featured 16 greens in regulation and only two missed fairways. Mark will be now looking to consolidate his position early tomorrow and capitalise, and in doing so must look at Friday as the second day of four for a consistent tournament.
